I must say I am very glad to find this, now the only version of doom2 I do not have is 1.7 NB : if you want to use this patche you will probably need 1.666->1.7a patch : http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=14814

Other files required    : If you have DooM II v. 1.9, you need the 
                          following patches to get DooM2 v. 1.7a, that you 
                          can then change into version 1.8 (I give the 
                          filenames together with the pathnames within the 
                          /idgames -ftp-archives, see list of mirrors 
                          below.):

utils/exe_edit/dm2dwngr.zip
                            --> DooM II - downgrade from v. 1.9 to v. 1.666
                          idstuff/doom2/doom2p.zip
                            --> DOOM II upgrade to version 1.7a
                                (If you have used the above downgrade 
                                patch, you have to run PATCHA.BAT.)
