Thanks, OliveTree!

Just wanted to drop this here in case anyone is interested. After over a year and a half of work, I finally finished my documentary about the making of the Doom 3 mod, Classic Doom 3. I tracked down and interviewed as many of the members of the team as I could. I also included interviews from two super fans of the mod. https://youtu.be/meTmpuTqeC4

The biggest news for me about this is the fact that midi files exist that have the beats per minute information intact! I spent so much time when I was remaking these songs (on any song I wanted to use the original midi) aligning the notes to my project. I literally gave up and turned off snapping in Cakewalk and just used the midi as my metronome. Had I known these files were out there back in 2005, it would have made my job a heck of a lot easier :) but I just figured the songs weren't going to give up their fruit that easily. I had to work for it. As far as the metadata showing what songs inspired the music for the game, I'm kind of over debating that topic. Every musician borrows ideas from the musicians they love. And if you're given a brief to make music sound like a list of artists, you're doing the exact same thing all the artists out there have been doing for generations.

It's been years since I've tried playing it. Are you running the point release of the mod? I believe it was 1.3 or something like that. It corresponded with the point release of DOOM 3. Sorry it didn't work for you :( that makes me sad. -

So I was going through some old backup discs the other day when I ran across my LOST recording of E1M9 for the Classic Doom 3 mod from 12 years ago. I worked on this for a little while before Thumpmonk came on board and redid it (and did a MUCH better job). I didn't remember getting as far as I had, so coming across this recording was quite the surprise. I figured I'd put it out there for posterity. Someone might get a kick out of it. -
Yeah I have been asked that. The answer is, I don't know... maybe... some day. My wife and I just found out we're pregnant last week :) yay! That will obviously cut down drastically on how much time I'll be able to spend recording music. My main priority between now and next May is to get my band's album done. After that, if I have time, I might do selective songs from the other episodes and from Doom II. I definitely won't be doing every song, because I don't like every song. The only reason I did every song from episode 1 was because I needed to for the mod. I'll just have to see how things go. It took me 10 months to record episode 1, so it's quite a commitment making the decision to do it.

Doomworld must have lost my account because I tried signing on and it didn't like any of the e-mail addresses I would have ever used.

I really don't know why I've never posted links here to my videos, or my Youtube channel. I just now thought of it. Earlier this year I made a video showing how to play the main riff in E1M1 on guitar. That video is right here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-cDc6z_S7E Just a couple weeks ago I made a video of me playing the drums for the same song. That video is right here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16HUhRYhd34 I also made a video a little while back showing how to play the lead guitar parts in E1M8. That's right here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gg_88c27Rxc Then just last night I made a video of me playing the drums for the "Classic Doom 3 Theme Song" from my team's mod. That's right here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmD3wyVGArU Or if you'd just like to browse through my videos (I have many), you can go straight to my Youtube channel http://youtube.com/sonicclang
