Vanilla doom already has some of those features: cheat codes and save/load are disabled when recording a demo.
-
Using saves is only bad if you literally never play without saves. Try recording a demo some time.

Doomworld Mega Project 2023: Professional Mapper Edition
TimeOfDeath666 replied to TimeOfDeath666's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Yeah it was fun to see people try to work within the strict rules. There was a big bug in both of my maps, but only one got fixed because it was game-breaking. Honestly, I thought the rules ended up being too stressful, I kept wanting to just check something quickly in-game :) Zahid, congrats on your achievement, my modern maps aren't as hardcore now that I'm using a trackball. I did a max demo on map06 earlier this year, it's my first prboom-plus demo after switching to the trackball: -
Doomworld Mega Project 2023: Professional Mapper Edition
TimeOfDeath666 posted a topic in WAD Releases & Development
DOWNLOAD: DMP2023v1.zip (466 KB) - Mirror Official Thread: https://doomer.boards.net/thread/3083/doomworld-project-professional-mapper-edition?page=1 In this year's project, mappers had to make their boom-compatible maps without even loading them in-game in a source port, meaning their maps were completely untested. 3D mode and the doom builder error checker were allowed, but some mappers went a step further and also chose not to use 3D mode, so all they used was the 2D map view and then submitted their map. After a map was submitted, I played it and looked for game-breaking bugs. If a map had a game-breaking bug that prevented an exit, I edited the map to fix it, otherwise the maps were left in their original untested form. Action 71 lower floor to 8babove lowest floor not working
TimeOfDeath666 replied to Clippy's topic in Doom Editing
I would have bet money that the -500 limit was for both highest and lowest floor actions, but after testing I see that's not the case. My life has been turned upside down. -
Action 71 lower floor to 8babove lowest floor not working
TimeOfDeath666 replied to Clippy's topic in Doom Editing
Haven't looked at the wad, but "floor lower" actions don't go below -500 target height in vanilla. -
Guy's gotta lay off the drugs. If you want to play the original game, use dosbox. If you want to play with new features and menus, use a source port. It's one or the other. Also there's an idclev code for changing maps.

How to make 4 part 1024px wide sky without Slade?
TimeOfDeath666 replied to poisonhead's question in Editing Questions
To add/remove patches in xwe you can go to your TEXTURE lump, scroll to the texture you want to edit, then go up to 'Textures' in the top menu and hit 'New Patch/Delete Patch' etc. But I'm not sure why you are splitting up wide textures into multiple patches, single-patch textures will display properly if their width is a power of 2 (8/16/32/64/128/256/512/1024). For organizing, you can highlight all your patches in the list in xwe and then go to 'Entry - Save As...' and don't change the filename. This will save the patches to your computer where you can compare the file sizes in windows explorer. If you have a lot of patches though, maybe just save them in batches instead of all at once. By the way, I got xwe working on my windows 10 computer by right-clicking the exe and going to properties, then compatibility, and using Windows XP (SP2) compatibility mode. Don't get me wrong, Slade is great, but I just don't understand why importing textures and flats is so much easier in xwe. -

The Official 'Trying to Find a Specific WAD' Thread
TimeOfDeath666 replied to gruntkiller4000's topic in WAD Discussion
This sounds like it might be Operation: Drown in Blood by AK-01. He originally released it as a standalone wad named odib.wad but then we added it to Drown in Blood as map30. -
Even just one save can be abuse. Saving is great for casual play, but if you literally never take off the training wheels then you'll always be riding a kid's bike.

Do you think GZDoom should have texture filtering on by default?
TimeOfDeath666 replied to BeachThunder's topic in Source Ports
Voted YES out of spite. -
My advice is that you shouldn't fear a lack of recognition, you should expect it. I've been making music every year since 1997 and there's still no guarantee a new release will even sell a single copy. The only way to keep going is to expect nothing and just enjoy the time you put into it.
