30 SCREAMS TO MAP (Full megawad of 30 second maps by 32 mappers for anniversary) now on idgames
apichatpong replied to Clippy's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Thanks a lot ! After having felt some improvment on my game I was starting to feel stuck with a tendency to reach my limits around the middle of the megawads I'm playing. Just needed the quick satisfaction of ENDING a megawad, perfect for a fresh new start ! -
[RC5] EVITERNITY II - RC5 Released!
apichatpong replied to Dragonfly's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Couldn't resist because its mirror in eviternity I is one of my favorite map but : Edit : There is a problem (at least on gzdoom)(missing texture ?) on the island with the three archviles-elevators, when all switches are pressed, there is a small elevator in the northwest that, when lowered, reveal bugged landscape. -
[RC5] EVITERNITY II - RC5 Released!
apichatpong replied to Dragonfly's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Some people just finished the first, others praise a five-years-after surprise return, you can also very legitimatly think it's a great 30 years birthday present... I personally receive this as awesome coïncidence : I've played full Eviternity during last christmas holidays and, due to the unique spirit of this time of the year and the awesomeness of the wad, enjoyed it a lot ! And now I'm gonna do the same this year ! Christmas 2024, you better prepare yourself in order to reach the same level as 2022 and 2023 ;) -
Do you guys read the text messages in Doom wads?
apichatpong replied to Cartel's topic in Doom Editing
I mostly read the intermission texts, with some rare exceptions when it's really too dense. Sometimes, when you don't read, you can miss a nice joke (i'm thinking about the secret levels intermission texts of Going Down). -
that's it ! Thanks a lot ! (all the entries were checked (except the "Add udMF...")) Now it works :)

So, after one or two weeks to learn very basic stuff about doom editing, reading some tutorials (but, obviously not in enough details), I've tried something, just an opening room, with a player start... And it launchs well on gzdoom but don't launch at all on prboom+... Since i'm working on mac : i use Slade, I chose Boom mapping with only doom II archive, downloaded zdbsp for nodebuilding... and here is what I can read on the prboom console : I thought it could be something related to nodebuilding but didn't manage to find what... here is the room and the menu for the "wad"... Thanks to anyone who could enlight me ! (and really sorry if i only missed an obvious thing...)

The DWmegawad Club plays: Realm of Chaos 25th Anniversary Edition
apichatpong replied to dobu gabu maru's topic in WAD Discussion
I agree with what you wrote and just wanted to add that you didn't play the latest version of the map and that, in my opinion, it worths a try. Of course, this is not a revolution, just a new sector, but really like the addition, filling an unconscious "something is missing"-feel of my first play... -
Casali-style Entryway edit

Nice and tough double hommage ! Good Job ! -
Flesharmonic : a violent and sanguinolent 20-maps megawad (now on /idgames)
apichatpong replied to Roofi's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Missed that update... I've replayed the wad for the last few days and didn't changed my mind : personal favorite of the year. Beautiful ending room for map 02 ! (and no more Pain elementals on low skill, won't say that I miss them ;)) PS : still these two lost souls that don't spawn on map 06 (prboom+)(but it reminded me something I forgot about doom - and a difference between prboom+ and gzdoom - lost souls are not considered in the killcount) -
Ex Aequo: a Doom I megawad (limit-removing) - BETA
apichatpong replied to Bri0che's topic in WAD Releases & Development
I like to kill every monsters when I can but I’m not a max ayatollah and it’s a pity that the « maxing » thing made me question about the cyberdemon because I instantly got what was your intent and it’s after some reexploration of the map (with due fear, because your effect works well) that I thought about the 100%. Anyway, I think it’s a very nice idea and you should stick with it ! Regarding fights, the theme of the episode might restrict very different fights, I had the same feeling yesterday playing Precipitous by Paf. To be a bit more precise (or at least try to), there are some nice variations on your E1, for instance, I really like the nukage « timed » fights of E1M4 (it’s hitscanners, ok, but don’t feel the same way), also liked the outdoor area of E1M5 and, thinking of E1M7, the four aligned doors openings leads to very similar fights but, after that, I loved the way you have intricated the different doors !. I’ve played the first three maps of E2 and the fact that there are, beyond opening areas, biggest rooms (like the storage of E2M2 or the lowering wall’s short labyrinth of E2M3…) plus some fun secrets made the pleasure even bigger ! I've also tried E3M1 and really liked this wide open area with all the monsters in the area revealing why they are threats (distant snipping for imps and hitscanners, deadly blocking for pinkies, spawning everywhere for the flying bastards and, inside that kind of mayhem, barons are really monsters you don't want to encounter too closely). So, you're also good at variating fights, and even on the techbases of E1, some of your technical ideas help to never get bored. Anyway, had fun with E1, have fun with first half of E2 and first map of E3 is promissing ! P.S. : i read your introduction after my playthrough, so discovered lately that it was designed for pistol start... -
Thanks ! At some points, since nobody said before you they've been able to reach all the secrets, i was beginning to think there was a problem... Then, because of your post, tried again and... just remembered it was Entryway... just a bit more unforgiving.

Ex Aequo: a Doom I megawad (limit-removing) - BETA
apichatpong replied to Bri0che's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Played through E1continuously on UV, then some maps redone pistol start, and found it very enjoyable ! There might be a slice of monotony regarding fights (corridors, more or less tight, with hitscanners, ambushes (hinted ambushes)…) but it’s E1… and I don’t want to be too choosy because I like killing hitscanners a lot ! The openings are simple on continuously play, a bit less trivial on pistol start ! I spoke of hinted ambushes above, the ones with lighted arrows more or less all felt the same BUT, i must say that, especially in the second half of the episode, Bri0che, inside apparently classical progression, managed to organize very nice (although sometimes cramped) architectures so that you’ll always feel good in those levels ! So, it’s an approachable episode and I won’t say « easy » for two reasons : — since Bri0che is generous on ammo and health, continuous play is quite easier (even if you don't use heavy weapons... for instance, didn't use rocket launcher before E1M7 and plasma gun before E1M8). — at some point, the word « easy » came to my mind, then I realized we were on Sunday morning, so my mind started to sing the Faith no more version of « Easy »… and I woke up stuck by a bunch of pinkies and spectres leaving me with 1% health (in the red bars room of E1M5) Didn’t found problems (but didn’t look in great details to textures), was able to max all maps except : E1M2 for the reason evoked above by jgs1989 E1M9 E1M7 ok, in fact i killed them all but The only map that seems a bit deceptive (even if i liked the last room, and especially the way you enter it) is E1M8 but, afterall, it's an ultimate doom hommage, original E1M8 is also deceptive. Conclusion : might miss a bit of variety in fights but : Very nice episode 1, good job bri0che, i'll try episode 2 soon (in fact, already tried it a bit last week, since E2 was released before E1) ! -
Realm of Chaos: 25th Anniversary Edition - MAPS 1-19, 31, 32 UPDATED! (Vanilla-compatible classic megawad)
apichatpong replied to Cammy's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Oh, you're right ! When I've found like you the red key problem I thought i'll check the megawad club thread to warn but Cammy already posted the new version... but it's not on the first post of the thread. The version linked on Dobu Gabu Marus's post is still the old one. Maybe @Cammy should contact him to change it ? -
Realm of Chaos: 25th Anniversary Edition - MAPS 1-19, 31, 32 UPDATED! (Vanilla-compatible classic megawad)
apichatpong replied to Cammy's topic in WAD Releases & Development
It's fixed on the new release ! By the way, 2h after my last message I've played map 08 and thought I was a bit mad not remembering some parts only two hours after my first play on the old version. I checked and realized that there was some significant changes on this one, i'll have to restart the wad from map 01 to check all changes ;) -

apichatpong replied to Cammy's topic in WAD Releases & Development
I was going to say that I enjoy (a lot !) my ride through this wad on hmp BUT that the red key was missing on map 08 (on hmp)... and now I discover the new Release Candidate where it's fixed ! So I'll just say that I fu..ingly enjoy my ride !
