I don't remember if we had a "Steam recap" thread for last year, but it seems appropriate here. These ended up being my "big 3" of 2023: I'm still chipping away at Dusk HD (neat, they just updated the achievements for it!) and modded MechWarrior 5. I'm also curious how @Lila Feuer has been faring in their Dark Souls playthrough.

@Slipgate Tourist made a post in the "Post your (Other) Game Screens Here" thread and I was like "Hey, that kind of looks like Dusk - wait, oh shit" and realized that Dusk HD came out so I'm playing that. Thanks, Slippy T!

Nice! That’s why I prefer the Prepare to Die edition as well: It’s a better mirror to the overall look I fell in love with on DS1’s initial console release; the slight color choices, the way the lighting looks - all of it. I don’t think I use DSFix for much anymore besides (maybe) anisotropic filtering, the rare occasion I want a higher resolution, and maybe some mods? It was an absolute lifesaver for mouse+keyboard players without a controller to play with, and it was downloadable within hours of the PC release. (Sadly, the nightmare of having to play multiplayer through Games for Windows Live wasn’t fixed as quickly…)

It's nice being able to play it on PC without all the hoops you had to go through with the Prepare to Die Edition. I myself am very specific and will still prefer PtD for a serious sit-down of a playthrough, but yeah I'd grab the remaster if it goes on sale. If you have some bros that end up wanting to play with, I think it has the buddy password system from Bloodborne. With a black knight sword and neatly leveled-up player character?? Those two are in trouble. It always feels nice getting one of those black knight weapons. The 'ultra' variant is one of my favorite video game weapons.

I’m fine with just replaying Saints Row 2 now and then. I haven’t been able to finish a GTA title but I did enjoy the Red Dead games. Like @scalliano implied I think the fun creative minds at Rockstar have all left as well.

Lovely ole Drakesword, a fun early game weapon with good base damage. It can be “noobtrappy” as it was in my initial playthrough because it can’t be weapon buffed, the material to upgrade it is hard to come across, and like other dragon weapon in Dank Swoles 1 it scales off of zero stats. Still my first baby and carried me for a long time. What class were you starting with, by the way?

If Doom Eternal were to ever get a Remake: What are some changes you would want/not want to see?
BGreener replied to nathanB404's topic in Doom Eternal
I can’t imagine a remake as readily as a remaster, so my idea? Knock out two birds with one stone: A remaster with the option of playing the 2016 campaign using Eternal’s improvements. -
Did you kill him or not? (Spoilers for Doom Eternal)
BGreener replied to DiceByte's topic in Doom Eternal
Less “spared him”, more “paid him no mind”; a demon that can’t or doesn’t fight back is beneath my idea of the Slayer, and there ain’t no fun in shooting that either. (I was also was very ammo conscious on my initial playthroughs.) -
I'm not really excited by either prospect but I can't deny it could allow for a much more heart-wrenching story: Seeing some regular Jane/Joe in City 17 as they're forced into the Combine. It could've been more interesting in the story-telling department than Quake 4 was but that's not a very high bar, in all honesty...

I've been having some decent fun with Mechwarrior 5 the last several weeks. A few days ago I decided to try the add-on called Yet Another Mech Lab (YAML) as well as YAML Weapons. It kind of reminds of when I played Starsector for a bit before I tried it with Nexerlin: "This was fun unmodded and now I am now hooked, see you all in a few months". I basically binged it the past few days when I could. One problem I have is being too addicted to my lovely Centurion chassis and seeing what I can plug into it.

Civil Protection appear to be fully or mostly human with Barney being able to infiltrate and pose as one, and regardless of their augmentation I'm intrigued that they still have use English to communicate; that may either be a gameplay consideration or a story one. They're otherwise kind of a more saddening Strogg: Instead of being made of "ex-soldiers" that we threw at them, the Combine appear to be mostly comprised of "ex-civilians".

what was doomworld like in the early 2000s and early 2010s?
BGreener replied to Johnny Cruelty's topic in Everything Else
This was something I was messing with through the Wayback Machine not too long ago - so the timing is very odd and cool. It was around this time in the early 2000 when I was just feeling the urge to play some Doom, then I went down a rabbit hole and came upon this site and it really opened my world up: My favorite thing at the time was the sidebar with all these mods: A lot of the pages still work like this one for Batman Doom: It and Immoral Conduct were my favorite. Funny how I only became interested in the forums a few years back when I've been coming to DW forever. -
I’m having a hard time denying it as my favorite; it’s neck-and-neck with Quake 2, but it still wind out. I can play it entirely vanilla one year and then feel like sprucing it up with mods for the next. The next game after that is another tie-breaker between Morrowind and Daggerfall: They’re both amazing but I have to give it to Morrowind. The rest of my favorites are basically fantasy action-RPGs and first-person-shooters from the 1990’s up until the middle 2000’s (with some exceptions afterwards). There are some strategy standouts in there like Heroes of Might & Magic III.

I think it’s these: Start of “Anomalous Materials” - c1a0 Start of “Unforeseen Consequences” - c1a1a I think if you simply “map” to one of these you’ll be suitless, so you’ll also have to enter “sv_cheats 1”, “give item_suit”, then disable the cheats via “sv_cheats 0”. I commonly revisit HL2 so I know your pain: It’s got a cool start but I can’t recall the last time I wanted to sit through it…! You may have already had your fun in a replay but maybe this will help some others.

So…basically… …A big mac is just a salad with bread? Awesome! My doctor is going to love this news! But the drive-through comes first. Thank you, Lynchian Flesh Baby!
