i like to keep my doom 2 installation floppies attached to my computer with magnets so i don't lose them some can experience seizures when exposed to flashing lights or other visual stimuli. even if you've never been diagnosed, please be stop playing this wad if you encounter disorientation, lightheadedness, altered vision, involuntary twitching/jerking movements, or momentary loss of awareness/consciousness. i tried very hard to avoid anything that would cause physical discomfort but everyone is different this wad does not work with qz/gz/zandronum as it relies on the old zdoom software renderer and other quirks specific to zdoom (or zdoomLE). you need 2.8.1 or newer -
there is another answer sometimes in life, you have a choice or option, but nobody talks about it around you. lacking the ability to even be aware of it, it's as if you never had the choice in the first place. in these situations, you have to find a way to imagine another path than those you see in front of you.

there's not, and it's not one. this is absolutely its own thing

Do you think GZDoom should have texture filtering on by default?
anotak replied to BeachThunder's topic in Source Ports
the following zscript in this spoiler was in DEFY THE OMPHALOS. pastebin link for source here it informs the player that their settings are wrong. this particular implementation goes into a custom player class but it could be reworked to function differently (like with eventhandlers maybe) for that project in particular we ended up needing hardware rendering support and not opengl ES so it detects for that too it also checks for hq resize which isn't a default setting but yeah. i recommend you all use something like this for your maps. -
that's weird, i'm pretty sure that's a stronger or equal system in every way than one of the ones i tested it on
-
not sure what's up with the performance problems here, can i ask what hardware you have? also which renderer are you using also there isn't really an intended order for the 4 maps
-
thanks for the comments i just wanna say, i've seen several different people come away from this with the impression that this was primarily my vision, but seriously a lot of people contributed here, and i really again want to highlight AgentJR and Crash's work on their levels in particular

a friend of mine convinced me i should drop by and post this here https://slimepattern.bandcamp.com/album/occlusion-culling/ i made some music, originally for, well. i was working on a sort of spiritual successor to this wad for quake. a lot of my creativity toward game design has slipped away from me in the past few years. i ended up scrapping the levels. but i did finish the soundtrack which morphed into "occlusion culling". i mostly finished this in 2020, but i spent a long time tweaking the final mix/eq well into 2021 until i released it in september. i know a fair number of people seem to like the soundtrack to lilith.pk3 quite a bit. i wish i could take credit for that. but imo that goes to bobby prince for making just fundamentally good shit, i mostly just applied the dj screw (rest in peace) method to his work for lilith.pk3. so this newer stuff is very different in style, but, idk, if you want to hear where i was going after. this is the closest thing lilith.pk3 will get to a sequel i guess edit on june 17th 2023, to post without bumping: politely requesting, to any youtubers or otherwise who make a video on this wad. if you have any compassion or empathy at all, could you consider leaving out the "controversy"? i understand me saying this may have a streisand effect, but it just seems to happen periodically no matter what. consider how your choices to draw your viewerbase's attention to something that personally sucked for me might affect me. and also for that matter, how it might affect graf, no matter how much i don't see eye to eye with the guy on anything. if you have any decency, consider that maybe it's not worth the cheap views. and to those youtubers' viewers: consider that the youtubers you are watching put those cheap views ahead of the well-being of people. the people who make the games and levels that they wouldn't be able to make videos without.

Doom Builder X 2019.1 - map editor download link alternate mirror Doom Builder X is a map editor forked from CodeImp's Doom Builder 2 by me (Anotak). DBX is intended as a continuation of DB2, in design and spirit. Bugfixes, optimizations, and tweaks to keep DB2 up to date with new formats like EE-UDMF are the goal. I intend to preserve your workflow from DB2, and if anything I change interferes with that, please let me know. DBX can be installed side-by-side with DB2 and will keep track of its preferences separately (but will copy DB2 preferences it finds the first time it loads). DBX shares compatibility with plugins and configuration files from DB2. changelog: download link alternate mirror dbx, like db2, is GPLv3. the latest source code is here

hm, you're right. this is what i get for trying to use a build process and a language i haven't touched in 2 years. that's actually a much bigger issue because it means i can't upgrade it, since one of the main features of DBX is Windows XP compatibility. After digging, it appears the (indirectly) potentially vulnerable functions are: - WriteEntryToDirectory - WriteToDirectory - WriteAllToDirectory dbx doesn't seem to call any of them. i'm still a little bit worried about just signing off on this as safe, because i've seen too many folks get burned by some unexpected side effect with using an old library. but it looks safe to me? idk.

https://github.com/anotak/doombuilderx/releases/download/v2021.1/doombuilderx-2021.1.zip new version 2021.1, this stuff mostly just sat on the github for 2 years. today, i got an automated email from github informing about a security hole in SharpCompress, which may affect PK3 loading (see here if you need more info on the hole https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-jp7f-grcv-6mjf ). i'm not back for good, please do not take this that way, just i have a responsibility to not leave the security hole lying around. i'm not certain if DBX was actually affected by this hole, but I wasn't ready to fuck around and find out. fwiw i think all the GZDB based editors might be affected as well. - bumped sharpcompress version to 0.29 in order to fix security advisory https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-jp7f-grcv-6mjf - fixed null pointer exception in 3D mode when changing sidedef (thanks to Davidmerkt.) - added EE heretic UDMF config (thanks to Altazimuth and Printz) - fixed some various config issues (thanks to Altazimuth and Printz) - fixed issue with sectors being deleted in the middle of merging newly drawn geometry, causing a crash - fixed a visual bug with vertex edit form not updating UDMF custom properties correctly.

Does anyone play software mode anymore? (and Sprite Clipping)
anotak replied to Jannak's topic in Doom General
i dislike that too tbh what's the goal? is it to look more real? because doom will never look real, and it's not even desirable. is it to look more detailed? what does that mean, really? why is that an improvement? -
syringe (disclaimer: i playtested for it)
-
oh yeah, actually this might be a big contributor, considering the "each time i come back it gets worse and worse" statement input lag on monitors has generally gotten worse over the years. consider looking here for your monitor and seeing what it says: https://displaylag.com/display-database/

do other first-person or third-person games make you motion sick? here's some things of the top of my head that affect motion sickness one way or another in my experience: if you use a software renderer, try a hardware renderer, or vice versa. (hardware vs software renderers draw the shapes at the left / right edges of the screen a little differently.) if it's an option in the port you are using, mess with increasing the fov. games with too-low fov make me motion sick try switching mouse acceleration on or off. try turning vertical mouselook on/off.
