Why I will no longer tag my secrets, and You Shouldn't Either: An Essay
Astronomical replied to stewboy's topic in Doom General
I think the answer is a lot simpler than what you might think; your map is fine, the context is wrong. Map 31 having 13 secrets is fine if it was in something like “Stewboy’s amazing adventure” where all of the maps have a similar design ethos, but ancient aliens has a far more slick feeling, where every moment where it was even possible for there to be tedium has been swapped out. The real answer is to be consistent rather than permanently adjust your mapping style to meet the expectations of other people. -
Better Call Saul Season 6 predictions thread (SPOILERS!)
Astronomical replied to Ludi's topic in Everything Else
Within the time of my last post until now, I have seen everything associated with The Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul Universe, including all of the training videos and oddities. There are 3 predictions I have, from most credible to least. -
CC4 tex has texture variants for that goal, so it makes sense.

No, if the exe crashes it would actually be worse because you would loose saves.

Dosbox is available on most distros, so if you are willing to set that up, you can do that, and most of those games don't require a mouse. Linux has good controller support, my ds4 worked out of the box (wired and wirelessly), so did my brother's xbox controller (wired, didn't test wirelessly). So if you don't have a mouse, Portal 2 with gyro aim is amazing (DS4 and switch only)

After playing Doom 2016 on my brother's Xbox, I was curious what doom from there had to offer, I got the XBLA version and installed it. Had a blast with both games but Thy Flesh consumed smacked me hard. I later picked up the whole series including eternal on steam, and custom wads have kept me busy ever since.

The Dean of Doom series (companion thread)
Astronomical replied to Sunnyfruit's topic in Doom General
I initially thought that MtPain had taken the bait, in my mind I figured that it wasn't him likely, so I had assumed someone was trying to prank MtPain as an April fools joke. I was right, but not in the way I expected. -
Guess the Map! (32nd Super Secret Edition)
Astronomical replied to NuMetalManiak's topic in Doom General
I used hints because I always suck at these. -
Would the original Doom levels stand out today?
Astronomical replied to sandwedge's topic in Doom General
Doom wads get a major benefit from the shoulders that they stand on. I can assume everyone who has played one of my maps has played doom 2. I can assume a shared visual language. I can't however, just plop in obscure eye switches randomly in obscure corners because I can't be 100% certain that someone has played sigil. If we removed that who knows what visual language the community would have landed on. -
[SLOTS TAKEN!] Community Trunk, a cp in the style of CC1 and CC2
Astronomical replied to Dusty_Rhodes's topic in WAD Releases & Development
The lifeblood of cp's like CT come from the large variaty of mappers, it's yours as long as you promise to make it interesting. -
[SLOTS TAKEN!] Community Trunk, a cp in the style of CC1 and CC2

I can give up map 30 if @Paf want's it. I keep on delaying the work on map 30 due to piling up work, so if they want it, it can be theirs. -
What were the first three PWADs you downloaded?
Astronomical replied to Dusty_Rhodes's topic in WAD Discussion
Before I would argue I was really a member of the community here, I was intrested in seeing what people were doing with doom, so I had found Ancient Aliens because it was the first result when looking into custom wads (other than Eviternity), Maps of chaos as for a while it is one of the best wads to pair with a gameplay mod, and I think the original scythe. Finished none of them until much later. I stopped playing wads for a while, but Doomkid's video on online multiplayer got me interested again. Just for fun here are the wads I played after my interest was peaked again. The original Rowdy Rudy, STAQ, and Eviternity. -
-Record still works in g/l/zdoom but demos break between versions so no one uses it.

The DWmegawad Club plays: Community Chest
Astronomical replied to dobu gabu maru's topic in WAD Discussion
Sorry I stopped midway through, I missed a few days and I never caught up. It's really good, but I have already almost finished it, worth a second play through though. +++Auger;Zenith -
Do what you want, if you believe that the art that you are construing is worth making, it probably is. As long as it isn't anti-human rights or pro-suffering.
