The game constantly demanding about 30$ every few months for 80% of the new content is a good enough reason not to come back to it, especially if a few years down the line they just release it all for free. It's a fun game and I enjoyed it a lot during the Dreaming City era, but the last time I tried to come back I played for about 30 minutes before being paywalled and I just dipped out ever since.

More than everything that's already been said here, I tried giving a chance to the Twitch Stream of the Doom Awards on the debut of the ceremony. From the mere 15 minutes I spent there, I saw that the stream was done on a flat background with no actual list of the winners, the streamer (who I assume was hakros?) flatly reads the AI-generated articles with zero enthusiasm in his voice, all while Discord is blaring at the background with the chat spamming him to turn down the volume. Anyone in the chat complaining about the AI articles would have their comment deleted, and then if you ask why your comment was deleted, you get kicked off the stream. He couldn't even be bothered presenting his own award ceremony in a way that would make it engaging and fun. And that's just sad. Joining the Cacowards team really made me understand just how difficult and thought-out the whole process is. Seeing someone attempt to half-ass this job with AI garbage is just upsetting. If you want to write for a wad that you enjoy, do it yourself. AI can't replicate soul.

Which custom monster have you seen most often in various WADs?
Terminus replied to LukeGaming's topic in Doom General
Has to be that Dehacked Afrit from Scythe 2, alongside its rapid-fire Plasma Zombie buddy. It's a tie-in between the two and I'm honestly tired of both of them lmao -

Congrats on the release! I loved The Lost Magic and I'm really happy to see the sequel out. -
[RC5] EVITERNITY II - RC5 Released!
Terminus replied to Dragonfly's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Holy shit. HOLY SHIT. How am I more excited for this than the Cacowards?! My favorite Megawad getting a sequel? This immediately takes priority over my entire backlog. Thank you Dragonfly and co for this beautiful gift. Happy 30th, Doom! -
Congratulations to all of the winners! This behemoth of a game is not stopping the brakes, and it has the best community it could ever ask for. It was an honor to work on the Cacowards for the second year in a row, and I hope you enjoy the writeups as much as we enjoyed doing them! Happy 30th, Doom!

Godless Night [GZDoom episode || RC1 11/29/2023]
Terminus replied to Tango's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Oh hell yeah brother. Gonna play this as soon as possible. -
Found a softlock on Map05. It's by the edge of an end of the road, a jumpable space into an impassable line with a bit of space inbetween with no way to jump out of. I must say I'm impressed by the way the maps have been unbreakable so far - There's so much jumping and maneuvering to do, it's usually easy to break the map in such cases. This is the only one I've found. Having an amazing time as always, the end of Map05 kinda fucked me up in a good way.

I'm about halfway through (at Map04) and this is beyond stellar. It's everything I love about Doom and more. The maps just keep getting better, and I'm thrown back to how I was blown away by Winter's Fury, only tenfold. My sole complaint is the weapon damage. It messes with my muscle memory in how either the weapons are too weak, or the monsters are beefier. Or maybe it's both. Please consider adjusting the weapon damage to match vanilla, that'd make the wad much more enjoyable. Other than that, I'm gonna keep playing this throughout the weekend, since this is my most anticipated wad of 2023. :P

DBK03: Shrine of the Silver CyberPrimate
Terminus replied to Big Ol Billy's topic in WAD Releases & Development
This has been my favorite DBK installation as well as probably my favorite wad released in 2023. What an absolute treat! The world building was fantastic and professionally crafted, the attention to detail in each and every area was very much felt and the campaign itself (as well as the secret maps) was solid through and through. It was worth the wait, and I can't wait to play more! -
First stream in ages - playing Break Point! Come hang out! http://twitch.tv/motiterminus

(TC) Space Cats Saga 2.0 (Update 3.0) (finished)
Terminus replied to DerTimmy's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Just finished playing through this. Took me over 2 weeks to finish the whole thing. It has some goods, some bads, and some "why"s for sure, but overall this is one of the most impressive megawads I've seen in a while. The good: - The characters/weapon mods for each character are fantastic, weapons feel super good, all of them have altfires which benefit different scenarios. The first character's arsenal felt the best to my tastes, but playing as Sill was very unique and I like how each of her weapons fit different situations. - Maps look good and mostly play well. There's almost no bullshit moments, and the combat feels smooth and rewarding. - The maps give off the impression of the mapper improving as they were making the wad, with each episode having more solid maps than its prior. - Good environmental storytelling aspect, which I'm a big fan of. - Fun and rewarding secrets to hunt. - No unskippable cutscenes! The less good: - Maps tend to drag on way too long, especially in later episodes. Episode 2 was a drag at the latter half, I felt like I played 4 "final" maps in a row. - Some custom enemies are annoying as hell (looking at you, laser hounds). - Some of the above mentioned 30+ minute long maps tend to have a track that loops every 60-90 seconds that can drive you insane at some point. Consider replacing some of the 1 minute or less loop songs please. There are some wonderful longer midis that can fit the longer maps and make them more enjoyable to play. - I expected the wad to be a little more plot driven, considering there's an entire blurb of lore that you can access from the main menu. The maps just feel like Doom maps for the most part. The "Why?" - Stealth Archviles. Or Stealth enemies in general. Cheap, tacky, belongs in early 2000 zdoom wads. - Episode 3 threw me off real hard. By the time I played E3M3 and saw it had 3000 enemies, I didn't know how much more I could take. Imagine my surprise when I realized it's the final map of the episode, and E4 was mostly short and punchy. It just feels weird in terms of map consistency, and E3M3 felt like playing an entire episode in one go. There is also a really annoying bug at the last map of the 4th episode - I think some of the "gate bosses" don't appear in Normal difficulty. I teleported into an empty room and it really threw off the immersion, where I sadly had to noclip to get to the final part of the map. (The gates that you need to shoot that open in that storage area). All in all, a very enjoyable experience, and a fantastic weapon mod+megawad that gave me a unique playthrough that I won't forget for a long time. Keep up the great work, and I hope to see more from you :) -
The system is fucked. This is blood boiling. I'm so sorry. May the path of light shine your way out of this hell.
