COGNITIVE DISSONANCE [cl21]

Recommended Posts

Really interesting map, reminds me a lot of Saturnine Chapel by dobu gabu maru. The detailing is really great here, makes me want to do more with just the stock Doom 2 textures. I only found 4/5 secrets but I'll probably be going back to try and 100% this, the secrets I found were all really cool. Definitely worth checking out if you're into more strange, secret heavy maps. Great work :)

Tried it out , got 3 secrets and got to the massive outdoor battle, then ran out of cell ammo for all the cyberdemons. It was really atmospheric though.

What I've played so far has been great, echoing what others have said great detailing and atmosphere. I do think I ran into some issues.

Was playing in the latest version of prboom and on HMP.

Surreal visuals in this ammo drought driven map, Cognitive Dissonance is a very good name for it

glad you liked the visuals and whatnot, brother

so the secrets are like half the map (no joke), and so i recommend taking a look into them n whatnot.

im gonna help you out with the secrets here (if you want)

Spoiler

Secret 1: A chaingun is to the south eastern side of the outdoor area. Secret 2: A blursphere is available in the room that opens up after you get the plasma, to access it you have to interact with the computer "panel", that is guarded by two zombiemen. Secret 3: If you interact with the vent in the second hellknight room, you will be given 8 shells and some health, and a commander keen will be revealed. Secret 4: The puzzle room will be revealed once you backtrack after grabbing the SSG, and head up the stairs to where you got the red key, head straight and a room will have been opened up, thus leading to the puzzle room being made open. Secret 5: In the first hellknight room, there is a hidden switch in one of the metal "pillars", you'll have to shoot the switch, head to the north western part of the outdoor section, and some bars will have lowered in result of the hidden switch being activated, and thus you can teleport to the secret area.

highly suggest checking out the secrets in your freetime, though

and yeah, the combat in this map is very ammo starvant, and in some cases very cramped.

the final fight is pretty tricky, but you simply just have to hide behind some of the big silver things with the trees in em, and then get the cybers to infight the viles. although i will say it is a big middle finger, its still doable. also, dont shoot the viles with plasma, since you'll more then likely use all of it on the cybers, and still be left having to ssg one or two down.
but thanks a lot for playing my map, man. its great being able to see someones gameplay and reactions

I like suzerduzer's remark about Saturnine Chapel, though I don't think it reminds of that so much as it reminds me of the unnatural feeling that big block-y buildings have in general. Dissonant structures that stick out from natural order, I suppose. Concrete jungle, urban slabs, my boring dystopian life, etc.

cogdiss_maribo.zip -dsdademo format FDA (plays back in v0.25.6), gets 3/5 secrets on first exit then futzes around and finds a 4th, doesn't manage to find the 5th. Accidentally played up to the first boom switch in cl2 so I had to restart, so I run through the outdoor intro pretty quickly, apologies.

Great map, foreboding building, attention mandatory encounters, and real atmosphere.

great map. played it last week but forgot to post here - the secrets are awesome, i loved the maze puzzles and cracked open notepad to mark the directions once i figured it out.

end fight is a total mystery to me in terms of how to deal with it so i just wound up leaving, but i really enjoyed my time with this one.
