[Boom] Third Eye - A strange and disorienting slaughter map - on /IDGames

Recommended Posts

Hi! I had good fun with this map. Not familiar yet with the inspiration you're citing, but I'll follow up on that.

I am a bit of a dum dum so I never got the proper handle of using the teleporters to my advantage, or even to know where I'm going so there's some downtime while I try to figure out why you would ever put a trickle teleporter in a slaughter map :P of course it's not a trickle teleporter, I just needed to get my bearings.

In terms of endless BFG (which I didn't realize was endless so I was running around pacifist in the beginning looking for ammo lol), I don't have a lot of BFG practice so this is a good map for me to replay over and over, I think. A proper max seems quite doable even for someone at my skill level because you don't have to worry about ammo or health really, just carving access to them. Loads of people appreciate slaughter maps with good access to resources, so I expect interest in your thread.

I played at a very high brightness because I am in a very bright room, but the lighting conditions of your map with proper brightness will lead to many, many, many, many. Many. Many many. Many dead runs to stray cyber rockets coming out of pure darkness, but if that's your vibe then that's your vibe. I guess you'd have to prio taking out the cybers early? But that would slow things down, so, you know.

Some beautiful lit up skies with pain elementals and hundreds of lost souls and tomatoes dominating one of the color realms on my run. Fun to tidy up, but also always a pleasure to behold a filled up doom arena with so many constellations of annoying, very cathartic to hold mouse1 down.

Good arena(s) shape for the sort of combat you're suggesting here, however a slight piece of feedback would be that the very beginning of the map is the hardest part and you get a very quick drop off afterwards and it never really escalates again, unless the rev horde and the two cybers guarding the exit are what you had in mind. But perhaps it doesn't need to escalate. Dealing with the floor viles introduces a degree of RNG to a proper run that I didn't get to experience with a couple of deaths I rewound from, so take my thoughts on overall difficulty with a big grain of salt, the viles are probably enough after all that, honestly. I iddt'ed as well to figure out the teleporters and all sorts of cheatery.

I like your stuff, I'll strive to keep an eye out for more as you make it. Thank you for sharing your creativity for free on the internet with all of us :)

Just wanted to say that if you were a fan of Her Love Just Washed Away, you should definitely try this. You'll get a different kind of confusion. <3

Here's an oddly successful FDA (14:41): noisy_thirdeye.zip

Cool little map.  A little trippy.  I'm glad there were plenty of megaspheres to top myself up and relieve some of the cyberdemon anxiety.  I don't know if there was rhyme or reason behind the teleport placements because I mostly brute-forced it to get the switches.  Thanks for the map, nom nom.

This was a highly confusing escapade initially. I couldn't work out why I kept getting teleported to a different area and there was too much chaos to check. Once things calmed down a little I worked out what was going on. A fun little map!

Nice map! I liked the atmosphere and the concept of suddenly teleporting between different worlds.

I would suggest making the ending harder, as the map is very generous with health, which makes it pretty easy after the initial cleanup / figuring-out-what's-going-on stage.

I definitely need to check out HLJWA as well, sounds very interesting!
