The Cognition Engine - Single Map

This map is amazing! Everthing is so creepy, it made me feel uneasy the whole time. The eerie music really contributes to the atmosphere, and the new palette fits very well with the aesthetics. I also liked the concept and the story, the hidden logs, etc. Very very cool map! Good job :)

I recorded a playthrough, will upload asap :)

Already there, my friend. :D

That said, this looks really unique and interesting. Well done! Downloading now. :)

Very nicely done, this combination of flesh, tech and corruption indeed looks interesting, despite using many known textures. I noticed one problem with monster closets, lines tagged 40 should open the closet doors permanently. I couldn't get 100% kills because of that. It affects other tags too, 8 for example.

Those monster closets are built a certain way in order to let the monsters out at the exact right moment. There are probably other ways to make that happen though, I'll look into it next time I work on a map. Sorry for that little issue and thanks for playing the map!

This map is a work of art - I thoroughly enjoyed it and was suitably uncomfortable throughout. Really liked the narrative element, it can be very difficult to pull off in Doom.

Spoiler

I was reading some of those Logs like "same", haha

Excellent map. True art.

First attempt demo recorded in dsda-doom 0.25.6 on Ultra-Violence.

Got a little lost because the yellow door looks green in my automap, there are no bugs I found otherwise.

Excited to see more from you.

What a crazy map! Loved it! Very detailed throughout, the tech/flesh aesthetic is great! Makes great use of the altered colour palette

Thanks a bunch for the video! Magenta Spire was definitely a pretty big inspiration for this one.

Having played this map start to finish, I loved it. It had such a strong sense of design and a really unique style/gameplay flow. Rare to see such a strong sense of design and vision in a map like this. Had a lot of fun with this. Only criticism are very minor newbie mistakes like a few texture alignments could have been better, and in one place doors opening into the sky, which is a mild no-no in modern map design. A couple of minor issues already mentioned by others.

But other than nitpicks, great work. Ammo balance was superb, always had not too little but not too much ammo, good spacing in terms of weapon pickups. Health pickups were juuuuust right again. Very Malcolm sailor in terms of resource management. Near perfect in fact! Loved the new textures and flats also. Bold design and execution.

Great stuff. Keep mapping! Can only encourage you to do more at this point. :D

[edit] my only other nitpick, almost forgot, was using exit doors as key doors. Like three times during the map I thought I was near the finish, only to discover there was way more beyond each key door, that those doors were not exits at all. I felt slightly 'baited.' Not good, not bad, just something to take into consideration. :)

Really enjoyed this bizarre and unnerving creation, don't think I've seen anything quite like this before. I went for a HMP playthrough, still had a few tense moments.

Engaging combat, ominous mood and a distinct aesthetic. A highlight of the year so far for me!

Here's the promised playthrough (with some sporadic written commentary). I don't know how, but I managed to find 10/11 secrets (including the secret exit). Took me a little longer than I expected (around 45 minutes), but mostly because I took my time to explore and appreciate the architecture. I love maps with "personality", and this definitely has one :D Congrats again for such a great level!

Thanks for the video! I think you might be one of the first people to find the secret exit! :D

28:38 on UV with 5/11 secrets.

An extremely enjoyable map. The only thing I wondered was the Cell placement. I had about 360 before I found the secret PG, and then I was at the point in the map where I immediately got the non-secret PG. I know people will find secrets at different times, but the amount of Cells I was accumulating made me wonder if I'd missed something as I was playing through.

But overall extremely fun to play through!

Such a twisted, fun, dark map. The secrets were especially so fun and harrowing to get, reading the chat logs after your reward.

Took me over an hour to beat 100% UV, and it never felt overwhelmingly tough. No environment felt familiar which added such a thrilling engagement to the fights. Weaving through the cables and elevation changes was absolutely fun!

Demo. I might have glanced at the RK door once but I totally spaced it out and crisscrossed the map wondering why the hell i was going back and not really seeming to notice. But it's kinda high-concept and shockingly ambitious!

Awesome map, cool theme, and unique use of text logs that I haven't really seen in a Doom map before.  The weird hell computer simulation is cool and you came up with lots of cool aesthetic ideas, like the computer blood falls and the sort of square matrix grid blocks floating in space.  The Dark Seed 2 music was an excellent choice and really added to the atmosphere.  Had fun tracking down all the secrets to get the secret ending.  Too bad I also missed a few in a teleport closet, tho I know that was brought up.  Fun penultimate fight with a sort of fake out, though the actual final fight I found a bit anticlimactic.  Overall was a really cool experience though, awesome job!
