I wonder what's actually the status of Doom 64 in Doomworld community. Was it well-received? Poorly-received? Or just a footnote in pre-Doom 3 games? Or else?

Is there a reason why Quake 2's mapping community didn't take off quite like Quake or even Doom/Doom 2?

A bit out of topic, but is there the true equivalent of Quake the way Doomworld is to Doom? That is, a comprehensive archive of WADs, resources, etc. -
How did we find the numbers in it? LOL. Glad that the discussion is still relevant enough to be continued even 15 years later.
