  3. Doom Monster Randomizer

Are you tired of playing a level and knowing just what to expect? Then this is the mod for you!

The Doom Monster Randomizer is a mod for G/ZDoom that uses custom spawners to randomize monsters. There are two editions: vanilla and enhanced.

The vanilla edition is recommended for those that want to fight the original monsters with a few custom ones. The vanilla edition includes 5 new enemy types: the chaingunner for the Ultimate Doom, the Nightmare Imp, the Lost Spectre, the Hell Spectre and the Red Baron. The new monsters are mainly variations on the old ones that add a little variety without being excessive.

The enhanced edition is for those that want lots of custom monsters. Almost every original monster is randomized, with the Arch Vile being the only monster that isn't. All of the custom monsters were chosen from the Beastiary based on how well they compliment the originals. As an example, expect various classes of imps to spawn where imps normally do along with the original variety. Each monster class has no more than 5 varieties, with most having 2 or 3.

Monster spawns are weighted based on what monster would normally appear. For example, the standard imps should appear the most frequently, followed by Nightmare Imps and so on.

As a result of randomizing monster spawns, difficulty can be erratic. Overall difficult is usually slightly higher. If you're having a tough time, trying switching to a lower difficulty or use the vanilla edition, which has less randomization.

This mod will not work with any mod that replaces the existing monsters. This mod will work with most custom levels, but may not work with heavily scripted ones. Weapon mods work great and are recommended!

  8. Ancient Aliens Textures

Resources from the Ancient Aliens megawad.

aa-tex.wad contains textures and flats. aa-mons.wad includes the custom monsters and custom decorations used in Ancient Aliens.

playpal-aatex.png is the Ancient Aliens palette. You can use it as a base to create your own palettes with additional ranges: it should be clear which ranges are not native to Doom and can be changed to whatever you want.

phu_big.bmp is a bitmap font to be used with Bitmap Font Writer.

alnarch1.xcf is a GIMP image file for the arch textures. You can use it to make variants of the arches with alternate background textures (a different set of bricks, for instance).

See aa-tex-info.txt for some additional instructions if you're unfamiliar with working with custom palettes. You'll need to follow the included steps to import and reindex some IWAD resources into your project.

  15. Brutalist Doom

Brutalist Doom is a WAD that retextures Doom to a have a Brutalist architecture. From Wikipedia:

"Brutalist architecture is a movement in architecture that flourished from the 1950s to the mid-1970s, descended from the modernist architectural movement of the early 20th century. Brutalism became popular with governmental and institutional clients. Examples are typically massive in character (even when not large), fortress-like, with a predominance of exposed concrete construction."

Critics of the style have described it as "cold-hearted", "inhuman", "hideous", and "monstrous", and for projecting an atmosphere of totalitarianism and urban decay. Brutalist Doom recreates this atmosphere, primarily through the use of a replacement TEXTURE1 resource, but also with a custom dehacked patch, texture replacements and a custom palette.

  18. Mechatron

Final version features modified heating-cooling system and works fine in coop game.

Mod idea and most of the sounds originally by WildWeasel. He hadn't yet finished his mod at that moment, nd I borrowed his idea (with his permission). This mod puts the doomguy into armored assault mecha with 5 weapons, 1000 armor points which absorbs 100% of the damage until it's compromised, and has unique cockpit and crosshair for every weapon. The mod is meant to make you overpowered, so don't play it if you don't like it.

And watch the heat meter! Its maximum is 100 and it can prevent you from shooting. Better read story.txt for more information about UAC Armored Combat Suit.

In addition the mod turns caco's blood to blue, hellknight's and baron's to green and also contains animated blood decals I used in Beautiful Doom.

  22. Freedoom leftovers

This is a collection of leftover resources from Freedoom that were used at some point, but replaced. A while back I cleared out all the unused material and moved it to a Subversion directory called "attic" with the hope that people might find it useful. I've gone through the attic (and also some of the old releases) and put this together from the interesting bits I found.

I've tried to implement some level of quality control as to what I've allowed in, but don't set your expectations too high. I've focused on including things that might be useful or interesting, and there's also some funny stuff.

The WAD includes a full set of replacement weapons, some alternate texture sets, and sound effects. I've not included any levels (there didn't seem to be anything apart from single-room levels that were never finished) or music.

  25. Necrodoom

    Gameplay modification for Doom(2).

You're the pilot of the experimental AS-66K Necrosuit, an assault exoskeleton developed for heavy- duty military operations. Asskicking and name-taking are your daily duties, so when the Union Aerospace Corporation wisely decides to open a gateway to Hell one fateful day, you decide to do what you do best: suit up and kick some demon ass!

The mod serves as a 'conversion' of sorts of the arsenal from Raven Software's obscure car-combat shooter "Necrodome," featuring a stylish set of suit-mounted guns loosely inspired by their Necrodome counterparts. Melt the competition with laser cannons, heat-seeking missiles, twin chainguns, and rocket scatter pods. Kablooey!

See the "Gameplay Notes" section below for a breakdown of the mod's more subtle features, like entering/exiting the Necrosuit and inventory basics.

2fort on it's original incarnation.   Pretty great.

The first ever version of 2fort. It barely resembles its later incarnations.   Crazy how an entire franchise and FPS genre spawned from a single map. It's a crime that the origins of Team Fortress have been forgotten. Most people don't know anything before Quake/TF1 2fort, but nope, this is yet another massively influential thing that the Doom community can claim.

Great fun. Bleak, metal-driven style over fairly easy substance, which is a good thing. I can see the song getting annoying in a more challenging map.

Pretty fun map if you want some quick, easy slaughter fun. Just sucks a bit that you can just cheese the whole thing by leaving the arena and running around at the edges of the map. Cool to play with gameplay mods tho!   Music is alright but it does get a little annoying after a while.

Classic, sober, simple tech map that I'm fond of. The flow of the map is like a river, and the backtrack (that myself is usually upset about) is intuitive to follow. The teleport repopulation is smart enough. I don't know about the health/ammo tightness other comments talked about because I played with a mod.
