Is that supposed to be a rocket?

The demon far away, which shoots that projectile, is probably a cyberdemon, but the marked projectile doesn't look like a rocket. More like a small laser.

It really is beautiful art. Thank you for sharing with us all. We got a severely cropped version in PAL territories. I mean it's still cool and all but the NTSC longbox edition is lovely.

Me too, honestly.

This cover never really appealed to me, the composition is just too noisy and unfocused.
Doom and Doom 2 covers are a lot better on all accounts, imo.

Decent job on the upscaling though.

What's up with the dude's haircut, anyway. I guess those weird shaved spikes are an influence from the Doom 2 title screen. But there is looks even more weird.

Yes. But that's mean dat haircut is canon for D1 too, plus PSX Doom was released after UD.

It looks like the location of the TNT intermission screen as well.
