kristus Posted November 4, 2010 The Doom 3 mod Hexen: Edge of Chaos has updated a few days ago with the news of the impending release of their first hub in which you apparently will be playing as the cleric. Accompanying the update is also a little teaser, which however isn't more than a picture of their logo while a woman is talking in that classic fantasy foreboding way. 0 Share this post Link to post
Udderdude Posted November 9, 2010 Warning: Demo video contains hot, uncensored smashing of wooden barrels. 0 Share this post Link to post

kristus Posted November 9, 2010 I just saw the trailer, sounds are pretty meh. :/ 0 Share this post Link to post
printz Posted November 9, 2010 God help that it's not linear like Doom 3 and instead is wide-open like Hexen 1, whether it has a map or not... Overall darkness and depression reminds me of Quake btw :) 2 Share this post Link to post

The only reason I was able to make it through the game at all is because I used a strategy guide. 1 Share this post Link to post

There were a few switches though. Particularly the one in the caves section of "Dungeons" (Map25). 0 Share this post Link to post
JadedLexi Posted November 9, 2010 It's great to finally see one of the older big Doom 3 mods finally get some sort of release. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Foodles Posted November 9, 2010 This looks great, but I don't like the sounds either and I don't like the way the enemies seem to explode when they die. 0 Share this post Link to post
printz Posted November 9, 2010 They also remind me of the Doomsday model monsters :/ 0 Share this post Link to post
Chrispaks Posted November 10, 2010 Switch hunting is the reason I indefinitely quit Hexen 0 Share this post Link to post
Vermil Posted November 10, 2010 Taken by it'self, the trailer looks pretty cool (audio, some poor animation and ugly projectile trails aside). But I'm not really getting a HeXen vibe off it. I also think the coloured lighting is a bit too strong to a degree that it looks like some of the colour of the predominent grey stone get's too washed out. 0 Share this post Link to post

Quasar Posted November 10, 2010 It's probably more Hexen than what we'd get if Raven made another one. Then it'd probably be an MMO where you go into slow motion to snipe Ettins' heads with medieval laser beams. 0 Share this post Link to post
kristus Posted November 10, 2010 I'm still looking forward to playing it. Just very disappointed by the bland sounds. 0 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted November 10, 2010 I'm very excited personally; have been ever since I found out about the project. If it's not full of spiders, that will be an automatic improvement over Hexen 2 ;) I will probably miss Kevin Schilder-style music, but Justin Lassen seems to have done a really fantastic and professional-quality job, and the music he's written sounds very much to me like the soundtrack to a hopeless world rotting from the core with the curse of the Serpent Riders' powers. I hope that song they had on their webpage previously is in the demo somewhere; I was in love with it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Xaser Posted November 10, 2010 Heh, I'd totally reinstall Doom 3 for this. Probably the closest and best to a Hexen 3 as anyone can get. ;) 0 Share this post Link to post

Why do you people keep saying that. :-/ Probably the closest and best to a Hexen 3 as anyone can get. ;) It looks to me more like a Hexen 1-into-Doom 3 mod, especially thanks to the player mostly using weapons remade from first game cleric's arsenal. 0 Share this post Link to post
SaladBadger Posted November 10, 2010 printz said:Why do you people keep saying that. :-/because some people don't like doom 3. They probably uninstalled it to reclaim hard disk space for various reasons. Then something interesting that requires it comes along. Well, they now have a reason. 0 Share this post Link to post
Chopkinsca Posted November 11, 2010 The demo has been released. Has anyone played it yet? I'm downloading it right now. 0 Share this post Link to post
kristus Posted November 11, 2010 Downloading now. Terribly slow server though. Only getting 200kbs. 0 Share this post Link to post
Dragonsbrethren Posted November 11, 2010 Has anyone else installed this yet? The screen is entirely black in-game for me. The menus and loading screen show fine, and I know the map definitely loaded since sound is working. Tried out all of the video options, changed resolutions, and nothing seems to have gotten it working. I wonder if it has something to do with using the Steam release. I have a retail copy, but I don't feel like installing that again just to see if it works. 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted November 11, 2010 Get the Doom 3 1.3-to-1.3.1 patch, and extract the exe from it. (It's not actually a patch, technically speaking.) Replace the steamified exe by that exe. You now have a retail version Doom 3. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mechadon Posted November 11, 2010 Crap, now I have another reason to buy Doom 3 (the other being the Phobos project). I've never had much of a connection to the original Hexen, but the video looked pretty awesome. 0 Share this post Link to post

Quasar Posted November 12, 2010 I'm already lost, so they must be doing a good job. Anybody got a tip on where to find the barracks key? Or otherwise leave the town? :P 0 Share this post Link to post
Caffeine Freak Posted November 12, 2010 You get it by going through the huge, open area just past the spike trap room. 0 Share this post Link to post
