About This File

A 32 level megawad for doom2. This megawad doesn't have perfect texture alignment, insane detail and fantasticly hard gameplay. Instead it focuses on small fun maps to blast through without much thought about defense. The difficulty rises steadily as you go through the maps and the last few should challenge even the best.

You'd be hard pressed to find a finer example of an inverse build time to quality ratio than the one on display here.

A modern classic, simple fast paced and a lot of fun. Visually it holds up really well even now, and it's my fave out of the series, I can't score it less than 5.

This remains the best fan-made WAD I've played.

Really good wad. 1st like 25 levels are awesome. Then once you hit like lev 26 the levels are unplayable unless you know your cheat codes.

all these years and Scythe still remains one of the most fun mapsets to date. given their size, there really isn't anything that's truly noteworthy, apart from MAP26 and MAP30 which are slaughterfests in their own right. but this is still a quick mapset to plow through in a pinch.

Real weapons, anyone? I'm sorry, but I gave up on this one after the first couple of levels, after getting sick of having to kill everything with the pistol.

Awesome megawad for sure! This one of the few that I can say is 5/5 worthy. - THE_DAVE

A rather well-put together series of maps that fails to fully get my Doom blood boiling. Every room is either a square or a rectangle. Easy to make, not terribly stimulating to play. Still, 5/5 for serious execution. -- cjwright79

Fucking junk! Nothing but a big variation of levels and nice maps to play on, each with their own unique style, then when it fucking gets bad, it starts up again in the middle with insane dumb ass concepts of "slaughter" maps and such! it's so bad that i ended up rating this *****!!! keep it up guys!

Dquey is just a noob, ignore him. I liked maps 26 and 30, but I find this the most fun when played with Aeons of Death.

I'm not the first to say it, but insanely awesome! To prove that the author isn't kidding that these maps are short 'n quick, I must say that I managed to take less that one minute when nomonster speedrunning all but four maps (19, 27, 29, 30). In fact these maps look like speedmaps that weren't made under any strict time limits; in other words, the size is reminding of them, but unlike speedmaps, they are throughly polished. The few bigger levels were great too, despite feeling different. 5/5

This is still one of the best megawads out there. I've played through it quite a few times with a variety of players - Perfect balance of gameplay and clean aesthetics. 5 stars!

The greatest. In many ways this could be used as a template for the perfect megawad - purist 5/5

You quit just because the first two levels were pistol (and chainsaw)-only? Do you really have a hard time killing imps and former humans with the pistol? You get a shotgun on level 3, isn't that enough considering the toughest enemy you encounter in the first episode is the Baron? Anyway, this has to be the second best megawad ever (first should be obvious to anyone), so what if there are a couple of misaligned textures - 6/5 stars

I agree with the reviewer 3 times above me. Ep 1 is (too) easy even on skill 4, Ep 2 was challenging, Ep 3 is pure madness. Overall, except map19, 29, 30, the levels are too small in my taste, I went through Ep 1 & 2 in something like 3 hours or so. I had to jump to complete map 28 and to access the BFG9000 secret area in map29. Map 30 is the hardest Doom map I ever played (skill 4), never had a chance to complete it. Despite that, I must admit that the gameplay is fun. 4/5. ~Naan

2fort on it's original incarnation.   Pretty great.

The first ever version of 2fort. It barely resembles its later incarnations.   Crazy how an entire franchise and FPS genre spawned from a single map. It's a crime that the origins of Team Fortress have been forgotten. Most people don't know anything before Quake/TF1 2fort, but nope, this is yet another massively influential thing that the Doom community can claim.

Great fun. Bleak, metal-driven style over fairly easy substance, which is a good thing. I can see the song getting annoying in a more challenging map.

Pretty fun map if you want some quick, easy slaughter fun. Just sucks a bit that you can just cheese the whole thing by leaving the arena and running around at the edges of the map. Cool to play with gameplay mods tho!   Music is alright but it does get a little annoying after a while.

Classic, sober, simple tech map that I'm fond of. The flow of the map is like a river, and the backtrack (that myself is usually upset about) is intuitive to follow. The teleport repopulation is smart enough. I don't know about the health/ammo tightness other comments talked about because I played with a mod.
