Doomworld Maximum Project 2023 - Compiling...
Phoenyx replied to Obsidian's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Even if the map doesn't get into this project, an 11 minute long metal song would definitely give the map a more unique sound. And well done on finishing your first map too by the way :D -

Oh yeah, the length is definitely also a major factor into the size haha. That sounds really cool though, I think it might be better for a single-map WAD rather than for a community project because obviously with c-projects, there's a lot more maps from a lot more people who may also use OGGs and that would unnecessarily balloon the total file size of the whole WAD. So yeah, I wouldn't say never do it again, I would just recommend using your longer metal songs for shorter solo mapping projects ^-^ -

No worries!! And yeah, some aspects of the song may get affected by the compression but it should never sound too different unless you're exporting at 32kbps and any small changes usuallywouldn't get noticed in-game anyways. 14mb is still pretty big for one music file so if possible, depending on the WAD, try to keep the size around 5mb. I try to limit how many instruments I use in one song in order to do that. :D -

I'd recommend exporting the song as either MP3 or OGG, never FLAC or WAV. I usually prefer OGG whenever I'm using that format because I can lower the bitrate to about 48-64kbps and it usually does not affect the quality of the song at all. The file size should be way, way smaller then because right now that music file alone is close to the same size as Sunder. ^-^ -
Glad you enjoyed it, definitely my favourite too of the five maps I made. Has my favourite MIDI of the ones I made too. I didn't know how well the idea would go down but it seems to have been received pretty well. <3

I found this unreasonably funny LOL "Thanks for running my map! I'm taking your index >:)" Bredd is absolutely terrifying sometimes

Just wanna add that there's basically no difference on the map between cl9 and cl21. It was originally made in cl21 but due to an error on my part, it was saved as cl9 and I also forgot to change that part on the text file too. Both complevels should be compatible.

Beautiful write-ups by all, thank you again for bringing attention to some incredible WADs and honoured to have been a part of some of them <3 Well done especially to the new writers: @Maribo, @Cardboard Marty and @scwiba, you all did a fantastic job! ^-^

Thank you so much for playing and for the kind words ^-^ Oh wow, it does look quite nice at low resolutions. Never actually tested that! -

This map was just kind of sitting on my hard drive. Original plan was to save it for a later WAD but I don't know when I'd actually use it and it could be months or years before it actually gets used so I'm just releasing it now. It is a single boom-compatible (cl9) map with a little catcher map too, probably won't take much longer than 15-20 minutes to beat. All music except the music on the map itself was made by me, just random tracks that I made anywhere between a few months to a few years ago. Hope you like cacos <3 Credits to @Maribo for offering to help with the palette changes just to make the colours look less faded from a distance, and for her work being a leading inspiration for the visuals on this map, along with @Nefelibeta's 'Prism' from I Can't Give You Anything. Thank you so much ^-^ Thank you also to @Billa and @El Inferno for playtesting! <3 Edit - 10/12/23: Due to a mistake that I only just became aware of thanks to Andrea's 6:57 respawn demo, I accidentally saved the map in Boom, not MBF21, when doing some final touches before uploading it to idgames. Whilst this doesn't change anything about the map, running the map in cl21 may have made demos incompatible so please run this in cl9. Apologies <3 Map and Music List: Screenshot: Available on idgames now! https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/a-c/clouded -
Bloody Banquet - My First Four Maps Combined Into One (Now on idgames!)
Phoenyx posted a topic in WAD Releases & Development
For all the fans of my Junk Food 1 maps (all five of you), here's all of them put together into one map! Bloody Banquet is essentially a boom-compatible [complevel 9] boss rush...thing but instead of bosses, it's my janky little slaughter maps from the first Junk Food. My first ever maps, in fact! This is something that I had in mind originally when I was making the maps for Junk Food but it ultimately would not have worked for a community project, especially when all of the maps vary in difficulty quite a bit. All of the maps have had some changes, either to gameplay, visuals or both, but nothing too drastic. I wanted to keep the visuals close to the originals, with some changes in texture and environment just to spice things up a bit. Most of the MIDIs from each map also remain. See this as kind of a 1 Year Anniversary thing of my mapping career, but maybe also a 1 year tribute to Junk Food even if it is a month early. I didn't want to be lazy about this and just chuck all of the maps together and call it a day, I did spend quite a bit of time tweaking things to make each arena (hopefully) better. Enjoy! And to those who celebrate Thanksgiving...I think I'm a bit late but Happy Thanksgiving! <3 Map and Music List: Screenshot: Available on idgames now! https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/a-c/banquet Credits: @dashiefrickintyan who drew the art on the titlepic and interpic a while ago and playtesting @Meowgi for running some very fun mapping projects such as the Junk Food series @Billa for playtesting
