    JHexen Progress

    By Mordeth, in News,

Jaakko Keränen has posted a progress report on his OpenGL Hexen port JHexen. Like Quake2, he has split up the game between a basic engine and a specific game DLL. This already seems to be "working quite nicely". Because of this split a JDoom and a JHeretic port are now a real possibility, as well as ports to different operating systems. Also on his to-do list are 3D sounds, a new key binding system and network-related improvements.

    DWBS

So, is anyone looking forward to any Doom stuff? Doom Millennium just announced their 4/2/00 release date, and it looks quite cool. I think that Doom2000 might just surprise a lot of people. And of course we're all waiting for The Darkening E2 and Mordeth E2/E3, but who hasn't been for the last two years...

    Doom In Text Form

    By Mordeth, in News,

Scott Warner sent along a link to a version of Doom in text form, called Foom. Foom makes use of the 'Text Adventure Development System', or TADS for short. Judging from screenshots (or should I say, quotes) it contains moody descriptions of the original "Knee-Deep In The Dead" episode as well as your adversaries. No stinking Grue's though :)

    Sitewatch

    By Mordeth, in News,

First off, a message to our hosted sites. We've asked several times now to send us a message whenever you update, since we do not have the time to check your site several times each day in case you actually did update your site. It's sooo easy to do, and saves us a lot of trouble.
One of the few people kind of enough to do just that, are the folks at the Tools-Assisted Speedruns site. They've updated with two more pacifist demos, one of them which has never been done before in pacifist style and the other much faster than the regular speed record.
The Doomed Millenium has posted a preliminary list of all-time best Doom(2) add-ons. Here's your change to submit or vote for your favorite add-on!

    Brazil Bans Doom

    By Mordeth, in News,

The news agency Reuters reports that Brazil has banned six computer games from the stores, including Doom. Other games banned are Mortal Kombat, Requiem, Blood, Postal and Duke Nukem 3D. Duke Nukem 3D allegedly inspired a brazilian medical student to go on a shooting spree in a movie theater.
According to a spokeswoman of the brazilian ministery of Justice the violent content of those games might affect people, in particulary children. Plus, hey, banning games is easier to do than putting a stop to cocaine and gun trafficking.

    FYI: MM2 UT DM ASAP

    By Linguica, in News,

I saw over at Blue's (as if I need to link it) that Matthias Worch, famed ex-Doom mapper now at Legend Entertainment, has posted 4 screenshots of his Unreal Tournament map DM-MementoMori which, as he says, "started out as an adaptation of an old Memento Mori 2 DM map I made." Good to know he still remembers his roots (what level is it based on anyways?).

    More Doom2000 Stuff

    By Linguica, in News,

Man, this stuff is just turning up in spades. I don't believe this got mentioned around these here parts, but Gamespot has posted a big huge article about "the final days of Quake 3," and while the article obviously focuses on that game, it does ask the id team about what might come next from them. This article makes it sound as if a new Doom game will not be the next project for id, but then again who can really say at this point?

    Comments On Comments

    By Linguica, in News,

I see a lot of Anonymous Users on the comment threads, which surprises me when it's so damned easy to register. Just click on the "x comments" and then on "Create an account" down at the bottom and fill in all the lines with your choice of username, password, and all that other good stuff. Here, use these comments as a testing ground. And since the boards don't have cookies than remember your password, it might help to keep it easily typable.
